Surf in Canada is not so easily accessed, and the winters are a real test to stepping outside of fair-weather surfing. I have always loved shooting photographs - ever since I can remember I’ve had a film camera in my fingertips.

When I became immersed in the surf scene here, I started shooting more of the surf culture and something just clicked! I am very inspired by the ruggedness of the coast and love to be able to use film to display not only the grit, but also the beauty of surfing.

Although I do shoot digital, my love for photography lies in film. I develop my negatives in my teeny tiny bathroom and always have rolls of film hanging up to my ears! Tofino is a unique town with a groovy vibe. There is an underground part of the surf culture here that is filled with some wild people doing really creative things and I feel very lucky to be a part of the growing scene.

Lucie links up her shaper Oli, "Sel Surfboards", with her longtime friend Marynn, tattooist and renowned visual artist. To me, one of the best things about surfing is the fact, that it leads you to places where you wouldn’t have been to without it. Incredible wildlife, deserted streets, endless desolate beaches, charming shops you had not entered if you wouldn’t have needed surf wax again. This time the journey led us first to South Africa and later also to Namibia. Two countries, which doubtless offer some of the best waves in the world, but in my view so much more.
