OUT OF AFRICA

To me, one of the best things about surfing is the fact, that it leads you to places where you wouldn’t have been to without it. Incredible wildlife, deserted streets, endless desolate beaches, charming shops you had not entered if you wouldn’t have needed surf wax again. This time the journey led us first to South Africa and later also to Namibia. Two countries, which doubtless offer some of the best waves in the world, but in my view so much more.

As an escapist, I always enjoyed how easy it was to take photographs. It's a very economical, quick way of grabbing whatever it is what you like for the moment and you can even grab things that are accidentally something, that you may like in the future, because of the way the accident goes down on the film. Can be something very boring and work out wonderfully. So you almost can’t loose! Anything extraordinary, anything beautiful, anything unique, unpredictable, phantasmagoric, it’s limitless.”

Peter Beard said in an interview during 1996 and that was what I also tried to devote myself to: Taking pictures.

The following photographs show a few of those moments and encounters, which appeared notable in my opinion during this trip.
