SPOOKY BOY
I believe my friend Mathieu Maréchal has spent much more time on the front 18’’ of his longboard than anywhere else since he first started surfing longboards as a young teenager.
When you surf traditional longboards you start to be interested to its history and where it comes from. Then California comes on the map. Mathieu has been travelling for waves and good times for years now. He has surfed some of the best point breaks but never in the Golden state. Maybe was he afraid to break down an ideal ? I don’t know.
Back in fall last year, he finally brought a flight ticket to come with me and see it from his own eyes. On this Easter Sunday here is a short film from his thoughts, feelings and surfing during our month wandering up and down the coast of California. From Malibu to San Onofre, Rincon to the Trestles. It seems like a long time ago.
