Usually, Neil Messmer can sleep in until noon without signs of life, but on mornings like this, he’s up, new log in hand, pulling me out of the door before 5 AM.
The beautiful log in the video is shaped by Dane Peterson and is Neil’s newest addition to his longboard collection. The log’s wide point is set far back, the nose is thin and narrow, with a decent amount of rocker and concave, and has a smooth squash tail to top it off. It’s Neil’s third session on his new board, and he’s arguably more stoked than the day he got it.
Blessed with some solid south swell and a decent offshore wind, our favorite spot is pretty unrecognizable. I’ve never filmed before, but in these conditions, with Neil surfing, it’s an easy and entertaining job.
