"URRIA" means October in Bask.
For this project, the main goal was to show what we can do in autumn at home in Bask Country as 20yo surfers and filmers, without the help of any sponsors but with our means, and of course, the conditions we’re given.

For many years, the art of surfing was practiced primarily by men. Female faces were too few. Lately, and thankfully there has been a shift with the new generation of shapers and surfers. Saioa Lorentz & Janire Gonzalez, born and raised in the Basque Country, where the mountains fall into the sea, are part of this change...
Surf shape meets art. This collaboration was born with the idea of using a surfboard as a moving medium for visual art. I met Caleb Cutmore in 2019 on a surf trip and was so confused as to why there was no footage of him to be found anywhere. Over the period of that trip we started putting together a plan for a project in 2020. COVID hit and our first few trips were postponed but after the countries four week lock down we started lining up swells and our work load to come together and film.

I'm a big fan of Zoe's surfing. She's usually in Hawaii or traveling on the QS when that's happening, so I've never really had a chance to shoot with her. I told her that if she sent me clips I'd put something together for her. And that's how it went. Every so often I'd get an email with a link to download another batch of clips until we had enough to put this together.

His ability to surf dredging Newport barrels and playful longboard waves all on boards he made himself is something I'll never get over shooting.
